"The best thing about working at Terra Firma is the diversity of the work and the chance to be with people who excel in a wide range of disciplines"
Karen Dolenec
Director
Hailing from a small rural town in Maryland in the United States, Karen found her way to Terra Firma by a more circuitous route than most.
After a spell on Wall Street in the private equity arm of JP Morgan, Karen moved to Europe where she went to INSEAD and during which she did an internship at Morgan Stanley’s private equity unit. She then moved on to Nomura in London where she joined Terra Firma’s forerunner, the Principal Finance Group.
Since joining Terra Firma, she has been involved in some of the firm’s most successful deals, being integrally involved in the pub deals for which the group is still well known. More recently, she was a core part of the team which led the acquisition of German motorway service station operator, Tank & Rast, which in July 2007 announced a partial equity exit and full refinancing.
“The best thing about working at Terra Firma is the diversity of the work and the chance to be with people who excel in a wide range of disciplines. The Tank & Rast deal, in which I was involved from start to finish, is a great example of this. I was able to play a full part in everything from strategy evolution pre-acquisition to refinancing.” says Karen.
