HBS is a business-process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology company operating mainly in the public sector market.

Strategy

Terra Firma identified HBS as being a high-quality business with a strong management team, but which was not achieving its potential as a small, non-core part of a large utility parent. Terra Firma recognised that HBS was well-positioned to establish itself as the market leader in the BPO sector and would be capable of flotation when the business had attained critical mass.

HBS, with Terra Firma backing and investment, has become the leading local authority outsourcing business and has won the largest local authority contracts tendered in recent years.

Outcome

HBS was sold to a strategic buyer in August 2007.
